In 1984 William Ziff Jr., the owner of Ziff Davis, was diagnosed
with prostrate cancer. His children did not want to run a large
publishing company so Ziff Davis had an asset sale. In late 1984 24
magazines were sold for $700 million. Computers and Electronics
was not sold and was discontinued after the April 1985 issue. (The
monthly paid circulation was 600,
000.) A few computer titles were kept including PC Magazine. These magazines grew with the personal computer industry and Ziff sold his second publishing empire in 1994 for $1.4 billon. William Ziff died from prostrate cancer in 2006. |
