This was also by Don Lancaster under one of his psudonames. His said it was a good thing because the circuit didn't work very well.

Two thing that were common place in the 1960's were vacuum tubes and S&H Green Stamps. A TV would have a dozen tubes and you would need to replace several each year. Stores would give you Green Stamps based on the amount of your purchase. (Like frequent flier miles.) You would redeem them for variety of gifts.
